KDB Project Diary – White Kitchen with Bold Blue Backsplash

Watch as we turn a bland production home builder kitchen into an award winning stunner!

Let’s face it, big home builders have to worry about mass appeal and maximizing shareholder value when deciding on what to build and how to finish it.  Hence, the beige and brown, non-offensive (supposedly), boring appearance of most spec homes.  Our client loves the neighborhood, yard and location of their home, but couldn’t stand the vanilla flavor and average builder grade finishes.  They also love to cook and entertain so it was time to make the kitchen they’ve always wanted!

We made a few key changes to improve the layout and efficiency (like moving the fridge away from the island and getting the sink out of the corner) and added a window for more natural light.

Our client knew she wanted a bright, bold back splash that would make her happy every time she sees it.  Our designer Stephanie knew just the source – Tempest Tile Works.  They turned out to be the perfect choice.  Tempest made up several samples until they hit the perfect combination of color and texture.

We didn’t stop at the kitchen. Check out the expanded, water tight deck with concrete patio below and new stairs to connect the upper and lower levels. We opened up the interior stairs and added a crisp white tongue & groove accent wall. Last, but not least, there’s the new master bath tile shower.

We hope you enjoy watching the build as much as we enjoyed doing the work!
