Multi-generational living

How do you design a remodel for mom and/or dad to live with you comfortably?  We’ve done several remodels with this objective and I have some first hand experience as well.  My mother in law has lived with us (successfully) for the past several years.  Our last house had a nicely equipped daylight basement that was nearly ideal for Grandma’s needs.  Recently, we’ve relocated to the country to a much smaller house that’s going to need an addition for her.  It’s a clean slate.  In fact, it’ll be a better set up for her as she won’t have people (noisy people) living above her making a ruckus!
