Should you give Metro Paint a try?

Trying something new

Should you give metro paint a try?

Miguel and Tony get ready for the day

From time to time a client will specifically request that we use a product we’re not familiar with.  We’ve learned over the years to be skeptical of ‘the next great thing’ when it comes to construction products.  Remember LP siding?

On a current project our client wanted to use Metro Paint.  Metro is made from recycled paint that homeowners bring to facilities throughout the state of Oregon to be re-purposed into new paint.  Ok, sounds like a cool idea in theory, but the wary contractor in me needs to be assured that it’s a quality product that works.  We have to stand behind our work and try not to take risks with products we haven’t first hand experience with.  However, we like to make our clients happy so we decided to give Metro Paint a try.

Metro Paint Colors and Price

The first thing you’ll notice is that there is a limited color palette to choose from.  In some ways, it’s an advantage – sifting through a fan deck of thousands of colors can be overwhelming.  Metro Paint keeps it simple and has a tasteful set of colors that will work for many homeowners.   Certain custom colors can be achieved by blending multiple colors together.  There is one sheen available and I’m happy to announce that it passes muster with our designer and resident paint aficionado Chris.  Not too flat and not too shiny.

The next thing you’ll notice is the great price.  The price per gallon around $9-11.  Fully half to a quarter of the price of many paint lines.  We bought our Metro Paint from the Miller Paint location on NE 164th Ave. in Vancouver, WA

So, nice colors and a nice price- that’s cool.  But is it any good?

Should you give Metro Paint a try?

The early indications are, ‘Yes’, it is good stuff.  Metro Paint seems to be as advertised.  According to our painter Miguel, it’s easy to apply and covers well.   Yesterday the primer coat went on the walls and did a great job covering the dark existing colors.  Today, Miguel and his crew applied the first coat to the walls.  So far, so good.  We’ll do a follow up post when the painting is complete in a few weeks to let our readers know our final verdict.
