Vancouver Sun Room Addition

Over the past two weeks the guys finished the cedar deck and siding work.  We got just enough of a break in the weather for the painter to paint the exterior (the entire exterior, not just the addition).  After so much rain, we really lucked out to get the house painted before it gets too cold.

Cliff finished wrapping the ceiling beams with alder, stained to match the cabinets.  The ceiling turned out really cool.  The painted tongue and groove contrasts nicely with the stained beams.

That piece of art over the fireplace?  It’s hand-painted tile from Mexico mounted to a piece of 3/4″ plywood and hung in a slightly recessed art niche.  Our clients have owned the tile for 20 years or so and finally get to display it.

This week we’ll finish up the details and our clients can move in- right on schedule!

Washougal Kitchen Remodel

First, a little background.  This project is the first time I’ve ever remodeled around an existing tile back splash.  Our clients are fond of their hand painted Ann Sacks Tile splash they had installed some 30 years ago and asked us to configure and build their kitchen around it.  While it’s posed a few challenges (like carefully removing some of the tiles to fill in a couple area), it’s gone pretty smoothly.

With the surprises (hopefully) behind us, we moved on to insulation and drywall the week of 10/31.  Cabinets were installed beginning on 11/8 and American Marble and Granite measured on 11/10.  While we await the counter installation on 11/21 we’ll paint the walls and trim.

Washougal Patio Cover

We wrapped up this job in time for our client’s party and right on schedule.  Now these California transplants can enjoy the rain from the cozy confines of their new 27′ x 14′ covered deck.  We intentionally kept the finish simple to keep cost down- including reusing the existing decking and railing but freshening them up with a new coat of paint.  Painting the exposed rafters white helps to brighten things up a bit and the skylites help to bring in natural light on this north facing cover.

Washougal Shop with Apartment

Aka ‘The Garage Mahal’

While the drywall started on the inside, Jason and Drew built the expanded deck area that our client requested.  There’s about 40 bags of hand mixed concrete in those footings, but hey, we do what it takes.  Too small to pump the concrete and too far to chute it.  The apartment has the NanaWall door as seen in this video.  We’ve been chipping away on this project for over a year as it’s a pay as you go project, but we’ve been given the green light to take it to finish so we should be wrapped up early next year.
