Building Strong Foundations in Camas: Behind the Scenes at Our Hilltop Custom Home

This video offers a closer look at the detail, precision, and accountability we bring to every custom build. Watch now to see how Kashas Design Build lays the groundwork for a home that will stand the test of time.

Camas Hilltop House #001 Geotech sign off, ready to set foundation forms!

At Kashas Design Build, I believe every dream home starts with a strong foundation. In this video, I take you out to our Camas Hilltop custom home project to share a behind-the-scenes look at the early stages of construction.

Preparing the Site for a Lasting Home

We’ve completed the excavation and laid gravel in the crawl space to create a clean, stable base and help with mud control as we move forward. One of the biggest challenges on this site is the 14-foot retaining wall. Because of the loading requirements, our geotechnical engineer specified a carrying capacity of 2,000 PSF (Pounds per Square Foot).

To meet that requirement, we dug a 12-inch trench, filled it with rock in several lifts, rolled and compacted it, and then had it inspected. The geotech came out, tested the compaction, and confirmed that we’re good to go.

What’s Next in the Building Process

Now that we’ve got approval, the next step is setting the forms for the foundation. With walls this high, the process will take a few weeks. Once that’s complete, we’ll move into waterproofing, underground utilities, and backfill before moving toward framing and the rest of the home.

I’m excited about how smoothly this project is moving along, and I’m hopeful the good weather continues to be on our side. Watch the video to see the progress for yourself and get a closer look at how we build solid foundations for homes that last.
