For some reason spec builders love to put sinks in an angled corner cabinet. Supposedly there’s some great view to be seen from the corner? Usually it’s a view of the neighbors backyard. Does anyone really like standing in the corner? I equate it to being in trouble as a kid!
The problem- making a big kitchen feel small
Here’s a classic example of the corner sink. When the dishwasher is open you have a tiny little triangle to stand in. There’s very little counter space between the sink and stove. This is not a small kitchen either, there’s no reason to jam someone in the corner like this and give them no room to work!
Solution, get the kitchen sink out of the corner
There’s a great view of a green belt behind the house so we added a window and oriented the sink toward the view. This also gave the space more natural light!
More counter space
With the sink out of the corner we were able to give them more counter space between the sink and stove.
A well appointed pantry cabinet
We also had plenty of room to move the fridge to the stove wall, freeing up space on the opposite wall from the sink for a nice sized pantry cabinet.
The result is a much brighter and more functional space with plenty of room to work, and all within the existing kitchen footprint!
