The Vision
We’ve been working with our Battle Ground client on the design for the addition of a 3 car garage, mudroom, and covered wraparound porch to their vintage 1920’s Craftsman home. The project will involve extensive re-work to the landscape including a new driveway approach with a circular drive. The space above the garage is designed to be finished as living space in the future, but in the meantime it will serve as storage and staging area for our client’s antique business. The goal, as always, is to respect the existing design so that our work flows as seamlessly as possible with the original design. This project is scheduled to break ground in September 2016.
Here is a conceptual rendering that I’ve been developing to help our client visualize everything from the roof lines and driveway details to the paint colors. Below is a photo of the existing house from a similar angle.
Existing view
The home currently does not have a functional garage and this view from the street is dominated by the 2004 addition the previous owners did behind the original house. We think the new design has much better curb appeal. The addition will tie in roughly where the wood stairs are on the right side of the house. I don’t show the dogwood tree in my drawing, but we do plan to save it.
The benefits of 3d design
This project is pretty complex. Developing 3d model allows us to work through design options and analyze potential costs before settling on the final design. It’s much more efficient and cost effective to work through various scenarios on the computer before the crews arrive. In our last design review meeting we were able to reduce cost by moving the driveway further south in order to avoid having to put in a costly retaining wall. It’s awesome to be able to show my client ideas that save money while still looking great.
Watch for updates as this project progresses from the drawing board to construction. It’s going to be a fun one!
