Vancouver Contemporary Townhouse Remodel

Inspiration

John and Robin wanted to update their late ’90s Vancouver, WA townhouse to give it a modern flair.  They had a very strong sense of what they want and were looking for a contractor who understood their vision and would work with them to ensure that every detail was perfect.

First they worked with the excellent Portland, OR architecture firm Giulietti | Schouten Architects to get the design down on paper.  From there, we collaborated with them to specify the finishes and details that would be the icing on the cake.

As it was

The townhouse was built in the late 1990’s with a fairly average level of finish.  The kitchen was small and cut off from the main living area.  The goal was to open up the floor plan, add a large 12′ x 8′ sliding patio door looking out to the beautiful backyard garden and to add a deck and pergola.

Kitchen

The new kitchen has beautiful custom walnut cabinets build by Cabinet Designs Unlimited in Camas, WA.  The island features a ‘waterfall’ design on each end.  American Marble and Granite provided the white quartz counter tops.

More light

The 12′ x 8′ Fleetwood aluminum double sliding patio door really allows a ton of natural light in and makes the space feel much bigger.  Robin is a talented gardener and the new door allows her to enjoy her garden even when she’s inside.

Patio & Pergola

The new Ipe wood deck, cedar pergola and privacy screen creates a sheltered, inviting place to spend time outdoors near the garden.  We suggested a steel i-beam support for the pergola to give it a modern flair and enough strength to ensure that it wouldn’t deflect while having a low profile.

Fireplace transformation

The original builder grade fireplace with tile surround was replaced with a new horizontal fireplace design.  We tiled the fireplace wall from floor to ceiling with white carrara marble.
